RECORDING…

When tracking, a selection of backline is available (including a 1932 A.B CHASE baby grand piano, vintage Ludwig drums, various guitars/basses, amps, various quirky keyboards and more). The ‘Hearback’ headphone monitoring system enables each band member to be in control of their own headphone mix. An ever expanding collection of dynamic, condenser, tube and ribbon microphones, provide plenty of choice when capturing performances.

mixing…

I mix ‘in the box’ with the best plugins available from Universal Audio, Waves, Slate, Sound Toys, Celemony (Melodyne), Native Instruments (and more). I do, however like to make use of a few choice outboard pieces including DBX 160 compressors and a vintage Roland Space Echo. I offer attended and unattended mixing services including online stem mixing. Perhaps you’ve recorded something at home but would like a fresh perspective when it comes to the mix? Get in touch to find out more!

PRODUCTION…

A big part of what I offer is music production. The role of producer can vary depending on the artist they’re working with. Generally a producer will assist with song selection, arrangements, structure, keys and tempos. They’ll encourage musicians/singers through performances, select takes, oversee the mix and generally help keep a project on track, on time and in budget. Sometimes, the role of producer is also to be a musician within the process of building the tracks. A producer will also have musician contacts they can call upon to either bring in to the studio or have record parts remotely to contribute to the process. In the majority of cases throughout popular music history an external producer is called upon to provide objectivity and make use of his/her years of experience to get the best out of the artist, the songs and the project as a whole.

MASTERING…

I don’t underestimate the mastering process and do not claim to be a mastering facility. However, I do offer basic mastering services, which can get your tracks competing with other released material. I also have good relationships with some high-end mastering facilities at a range of budgets that I can put you on to at the end of a project.
